Neapolitan crime families seem to be under some strain as of late. The police has scored several successes and put some of the heads of Camorra (the name of the Neapolitan mafia) families behind bars.

Walter Veltroni was the leader of the Italian Partito Democratico – Democratic Party, until he was ousted in favour of one Dario Franceschini . Veltroni resigned as leader of the Italian Democratic Party in February this year. Today on Rai’s TG2 news however, while promoting his new book, Veltroni claimed he was no longer actively involved in Italian politics. When he resigned as leader, did he also give up his seat in the Italian parliament

Umberto Bossi, the irascible leader of Italy’s Northern League party, does not like Italy. I get the impression that he’d love to see a form of de-unification, and here’s how he could achieve his dream. You will have heard of the Suez and the Panama canals, I’m sure, well how about a new addition – the Padana Canal ? This new waterway stroke national boundary would effectively detach Italy’s head from, in Bossi’s eyes, the rest of its troublesome body. Italy’s brains would thus be kept the right place. Where could this new canal be built?

A recent survey from tripadvisor.it amongst French, Spanish and English travelers revealed that Italian is considered the most romantic language. 31% of French, 15% of Spaniards and 23% of British think that Italian is the most sensual, romantic accent – making Italian the most sensual overall. Second position is reserved to French and third to Spanish.

Exactly 400 years ago in front of the Venetian Senate a straight talking Italian professor of physics presented a device that would magnify objects, nine times. Little did the ’senatori’ know that that simple leather tube with glass lenses on each side and the science that accompanied it, would set in motion a series of events that would change our understanding of the world forever.
