Italy’s many talk show hosts and TV anchormen are in despair following a decision by RAI to ban political talk shows until after the regional elections at the end of March. This is because Italy has an equal media access rule for all legal political parties, guaranteeing them equal air time. In the past, some shows have not respected the time rule.

Sunday 28th February is “Anti-Smog Day” in Northern Italy, with over 80 towns planning to block non-emergency traffic for the day. Many Italian cities have had anti-pollution days before but this is to be the first time that the effort has been coordinated on such a scale.

The video game “ Dante’s Inferno ” [Electronic Arts] which has already generated 10,000 web pages and has a following of 20,000 fans on facebook, has been released in Italy. “Blood and gore, intense violence, nudity and sexual content”, warns the game’s website encouragingly.

The cities of Rome and Venice will be twinned for the Carnival season this year with Rome reviving traditions that have not been seen in the city since the seventeenth century.
